For the third year in a row Charterhouse have entered the Independent Schools Ski and Snowboard Championships. After training hard during OQ at the Aldershot dry ski slope, the ski team were in fine form.
Between 14th – 20th December, they competed in the Giant Slalom, Slalom and Parallel Slalom. Competition was fiercer than ever this year, with over 340 racers competing in the largest ever championships.
Despite this pressure, Charterhouse skiers did themselves proud. Particularly impressive performances came from Max Fairfull (R, H) who excelled in the Giant Slalom, securing a gold medal in the Boy’s (U16) event. The Boys’ Senior Giant Slalom Team also secured an impressive Silver medal in the Team Competition.
Charterhouse entered an all-girls’ team for the first time this year, and they put in an excellent performance, securing 5th and 9th place in the Slalom and GS respectively. The girls’ competition is particularly strong, so this was an excellent achievement. Individual performances in the GS included Ilaria Bressi (1YS, R) in 8th and Rapha Redfern (2YS, G) in 10th.
This year we experienced the best snow the Alps has seen at start of a season in twenty years. Whilst they were excellent skiing conditions, racers had to compete in some tricky powder and very low visibility at times.
Underschool pupils Will DuCann (5th place in the U16 GS) and Emile Jurgens (6th place in the U16 GS) should also be congratulated for their performances and point to an exciting future for skiing at Charterhouse.
Overall Team competition placement:
Charterhouse Boys came 5th
Charterhouse Girls came 6th
